Trouble Shooting and Hand-Scoring
If you clicked this button and did not get a score, your browser or some other software may be blocking pop-ups or javascript may be disabled. If you are not able to un-block pop-ups or enable javascript, you may score the O*Net Interest Profiler yourself by hand.

Hand-scoring is easier if you print out the test page; however, it is also possible to do so by simply looking at your monitor and taking notes.  First, examine the color scheme; each color corresponds to one of the occupational codes named by John Holland, also known as RIASEC codes:

  • Green - Realistic
  • Pink - Investigative
  • Orange - Artistic
  • Purple - Social
  • Yellow - Enterprising
  • Blue - Conventional

The first two questions are green, for example; the next two are pink, and so on.  Add up all your “Likes” under each color

If you have the highest number of “green” likes, the first letter of your Holland code is “R” standing for Realistic.  If the next highest number of your likes is blue, the second letter of your Holland code is “C” meaning Conventional.  Add up your likes under each of the remaining colors until you have your own Holland code representing all your rank-ordered occupational interests.

Now you may visit a page in the Automated Advisor that connects your Holland/RIASEC code to a rank-ordered list of the most relevant occupations.  You will need to manually enter your scores.  If you establish a “My Advisor” account in the Automated Advisor beforehand, you will be able to save your scores as well as all the occupational and educational information related to them.

Manual score(s) entry option in the Automated Advisor

If there are large differences within the ranks of your scores, the Automated Advisor permits you to assign weights to each score.  Feel free to experiment.  Until you become comfortable navigating between the codes and occupations, however, it is probably best to start exploring with the unweighted option.
